Kidney Kid Initiative

What started as a local "edutainment" (education and entertainment) program has grown into a global kidney initiative. With the help of a key hero character, the Kidney Kid Initiative educates children and their teachers, parents, and guardians about their kidneys through eye-catching and interactive media, materials, and activities. This program will be introduced to twenty Boys & Girls Clubs across the U.S. and will engage up to 2,000 youth in learning about the importance of healthy habits.

The Kidney Kid is ideal for kids ages 6-12 and a perfect complement to physical education, health education, and science curriculum. Are you interested in helping your kids know more about their kidneys? If so, please share the Kidney Kid with your child’s classroom by downloading this letter for their teachers.

Parents can feel good about their kids playing this educational game that follows The Kidney Kid through various adventures all while learning the value of maintaining healthy habits for sustained kidney function.

Combatting Chronic Kidney Disease with Awareness and Prevention

As the premier healthcare company focused on providing the highest quality care to people with renal and other chronic conditions, we recognize our responsibility to take a lead role in chronic kidney disease (CKD) awareness and prevention. Kidney health awareness should start early to help prevent obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, which are the main precursors to kidney disease.

What We Aim to Achieve

Our funding for Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) Healthy Habits program will encourage kids and teens nationwide to improve their overall health through healthy eating and living habits. Our goal in this partnership is to:

  • Take an active part in promoting how healthy habits can prevent disease
  • Engage our staff in community outreach to teach their others about health
  • Strengthen relationships in communities most often impacted by CKD

$250,000 Donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of America

We made a $250,000 donation to BGCA in March of 2022 to coincide with National Kidney Month. Our funding for BGCA's Healthy Habits program will encourage kids and teens nationwide to improve their overall health through healthy eating and living habits. In 20 select Boys & Girls Clubs, our employees will offer side-by-side support to youth through health and wellness resources and programming. Additionally, at each selected Club, our employees will introduce kids and teens to The Kidney Kid Initiative.
